The centre serves the Edmonton community and all children are welcome. We are proud of our ethnic diversity which makes our centre distinctive. We support children’s diversity and are committed to being fully inclusive.
The daily programs at Lansdowne Child Care and Family Centre reflect the developmental needs and interests of all children. We strive to develop the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of all children. While the Centre provides group care for the children, each child's individual needs are taken into consideration. The Centre's philosophy creates a "Learning Through Play" environment, developed around fine and gross motor activities, outdoor play, crafts, drama, music, songs, stories, and field trips.
The Centre works in partnership with the Lansdowne Elementary School in complementing and addressing the overall developmental needs of all children. The Child Care and Out of School Care programs vary according to the children's developmental levels. In both programs we enhance their educational experiences and growth through play.
We provide age-appropriate activities throughout the year. All staff members participate weekly in planning sessions to ensure the programming is current and stimulating for the children. Program planning sheets are posted on bulletin boards outside each room. Home visits are an integral part of our program that help strengthen the bonds between family and caregiver.
We have five play rooms within the centre; a toddler room, two preschool rooms, a kindergarten age room and an out of school care program. Sunbeam takes children 13 months to 2 ½, Happyland and Busybee takes children 2 ½ to 4, Kindertown takes children 4 to 6 year olds and the Explorers take children 6 to 12 years of age.
