Our play-based programs are thoughtfully designed to support each stage of early childhood.
Our Programs.

The Centre serves the Edmonton community and all children are welcome. We are proud of our ethnic diversity and are committed to being fully inclusive.
The daily programs at Lansdowne Child Care and Family Centre reflect the developmental needs and interests of all children. We strive to develop the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of all children. While the Centre provides group care, each child's individual needs are taken into consideration. The Centre's philosophy creates a "Learning Through Play" environment, developed around fine and gross motor activities, outdoor play, crafts, music, songs, stories, and loose parts.
The Child Care and Out of School Care programs vary according to the children's developmental levels. In both programs we enhance their educational experiences and growth through play.
We provide age-appropriate activities throughout the year. All educators participate in a weekly planning session to ensure the programming is current and stimulating for the children. We are currently following the "Flight", Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework. www.flightframework.ca/
Parent - Teacher Visits are an integral part of our program which is an opportunity for families to connect one-on-one with and educator and to gain meaningful information as to how the child is progressing in the program. Child portfolios are shared with the family during the visit.
-
Sunbeam (Toddlers)
The learning environment is a space where the children have multiple opportunities to explore their environment at their level and comfort.
The environment supports the children's overall growth and development as they engage in open ended activities such as building, creating and developing relationships amongst each other.
There are four educators who work in the classroom who plan activities based on observations and interests of the children.
-
Busy Bee (Pre-School)
The room is arranged where the children have opportunities to discover their environment, express themselves openly and actively participate in the space around them.
The educators plan stimulating activities that enhances children's problem solving, curiosities and desires to learn with their peers. The educators plan according to the children's interests through observation.
-
Happyland (Kindergarten)
The children in the class are becoming more independent where they express their opinions, share their interests and make decisions for themselves with support of the educator.
The children are decision makers, problem solvers and are adventurous. The Happyland children enjoy taking risks by tumbling, rolling, climbing and jumping off off different structures.
The children are supported in this play as they are discovering what the their bodies are capable of doing in a safe way. The educators plan around the interests and ideas of the children.

OOSC (Explorers)
The room environment supports the overall development of school age children in care. The Lansdowne Out-of-School Care program provides opportunities for children to engage in playful exploration with their peers which includes, natural elements and loose parts, art and crafts, baking, cooperative games, sports and outdoor play.
Over the summer months we offer a wide range of interactive activities for children ages 6-12 such as cooking, orienteering, bike and scooter relays, water sports, exploring nature and a variety of fieldtrips.
The activities are based on the children's needs and interests within the program.
